How to Support Skagway Businesses - 2022 Rockslide Edition
/In 2020, Skagway experienced the unthinkable due to COVID. Our entire economy came to a stand still! It was at that time, that I created this list of local businesses that could use some love and support. The list was created in an effort to help support the businesses, since our major source of revenue had been taken away with the cancellation of the cruise season. That cancellation continued into the following year before we had an abbreviated season in 2021 (with much lower passenger counts than we were accustomed to).
Fast forward to the 2022 season…we were finally gaining momentum. While passenger counts were still not full, it felt amazing to have people bustling about town again. In fact, for our personal business, it finally felt like our business was going to make it (after two false starts)!
If you are a fan of Alaska cruises, you have probably heard by now, that we have been plagued with an active rockslide that is diverting ships to other ports. And while it is certainly a disappointment to miss your stop in Skagway, it is definitely a blow to the tour companies and other small businesses in town. We essentially have 6 months to make all of our yearly income.
This is certainly not a new rock slide. It has been sliding since we got here in 2017. However, it has become increasingly more dangerous.
Businesses in town are still trying to get caught up from the last two years. So, I am publishing this list again. Maybe you were scheduled to visit Skagway and your ship got diverted. If that is the case, maybe you could shop online with one of these local businesses to show your support!
For those who are still able to visit Skagway, stop by one (or ALL) of these locally owned businesses to show your support! Click on the business names below to be taken to their websites!
